Music maestro and legendary Ghazal singer Pankaj Udhas passed away at the age of 73. Singer Sonu Nigam confirmed the news.
Legendary classical and Ghazal singer Pankaj Udhas passed away at the age of 72. The singer died after a prolonged illness and the same was confirmed by his singer Sonu Nigam. The official statement from Udhas’ daughter Nayaab Udhas on her social media post read, “With a very heavy heart, we are saddened to inform you of the sad demise of Padmashri Pankaj Udhas on 26th February 2024 due to a prolonged illness."
Pankaj Udhas is hailed as one of the finest Ghazal singers in the music fraternity. Some of his cult-classic songs include ‘Rishta Tera Mera’, ‘Na Kajare Ki Dhar’, ‘Chitthi Ayi Hain’, ‘Mat Kar Itna Guroor’ and ‘Aaj Phir Tum Pe.’ He particularly ruled the roost from between the 1980s and 1990s. The late singer’s soul-stirring and emotive manner of singing resonated with all of the music enthusiasts out there. Sonu’s post read, “One of the most important part of my childhood, is lost today. Shri Pankaj Udhas ji, I will miss you forever. My heart cries knowing that you are no more. Thank you for being there. Om Shanti.”

He released several notable albums over his glorious music career and collaborated with eminent names in the industry. He was awarded the highest civilian award which is the Padma Shri in 2006. Many fans poured their condolences in the post shared by his daughter.
A fan said, “Can’t believe this. Devastated by this news. The most kind & loving Shri Pankaj Udhas ji! May almighty give strength to you @nayaabudhas @ojasadhiya & the whole family in these difficult times . Prayers.” Another netizen said, “I am terribly sorry and this is devastating! May his soul rest in peace. I know no words can pacify, however I pray that almighty gives your family the strength to deal with the irreparable loss of Sh. Udhasji.” He is now survived by his wife and two children.
