Janhvi Kapoor and actor Rajkummar Rao are gearing up for the release of the romantic sports drama film, Mr. & Mrs. Mahi. The film follows a couple are passionate about cricket and that becomes the catalyst in their love story until all of it crumbles down due to a fallout. Will the two be able to make a truce and continue with their love story forms the plotline of the film. From incredible storytelling to soulful songs, here are five reasons why you should watch Mr. & Mrs. Mahi in theatres this week.

    A romantic sports drama film

I don’t remember the last time somebody made a love story centered around a sport, and that too cricket. Director Sharan Sharma has clubbed his two passions and has created a unique storyline where the lead characters share a mutual love for the sport. After realising Mahima’s (Janhvi) natural talent for playing cricket, Mahendra (Rajkummar) is motivated to train Mahima to become a national-level player only to win his father’s validation through that.

    Impeccable performances

Rajkummar Rao is one of the finest actors in the country right now. Known for his acting prowess in films such as Shahid, Omerta, Newton, Trapped, and many more, the actor will grace the silver screen to win the audience’s hearts with his timeless charm. Janhvi Kapoor, however, created a niche for herself by featuring in films such as Mili, Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl and Roohi. The actress is known to experiment with her roles while breaking away from her real-life glamorous avatar. During the promotion of the film, the actress stated multiple times that she trained for two years to play cricket and suffered many injuries. I’m sure it will be fun to watch Janhvi hitting sixes in the film.

    Soulful music

The first track that the makers unveiled from the film was Dekhha Tenu, which is a recreation of the original song Say Shava Shava, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. The recreation won the audience’s hearts and went viral on the internet. Sung by Mohammad Faiz, the track is composed and penned by Jaani. Another track from the film is Agar Ho Tum which showcases the couple’s journey of falling in love through cricket. Composed by Tanishk Bagchi, Agar Ho Tum is sung by Jubin Nautiyal and penned by Kausar Munir.

    Social commentary

Mr. & Mrs. Mahi is not just a regular romantic drama film about a couple who love cricket and live their lives happily ever after. The film, set in Jaipur, goes deeper than that and deals with sociological issues. The lives of Mahendra and Mahima are heavily influenced by their parents’ aspirations and their insecurities. Mahima became a doctor because her parents wanted her to be, and Mahendra quit cricket because his father didn’t think he was good enough to make it in the world. By showcasing the lives of these two, Mr. & Mrs. Mahi pushes you to go that extra mile and not seek your parents’ validation but rather to do what your heart desires. When Mahima tells Mahendra that she is not made for cricket, Mahendra says, “Agar tumhe Cricket se khushi milti hai toh tum bani ho cricket ke liye (If you feel happy playing cricket then you are made for it).”

    Stunning shooting locations

The trailer of the film and the songs display scenic locations from Jaipur. In Dekhha Tenu, the marriage sequence is shot against a bright gold background which makes it look magical. The Aravalli hills, old temples and beautiful background have a character of their own in the film and add an extra layer of drama by making the film seem timeless and charming.
