Actor Naga Chaitanya expressed his joy while confirming the news about his 2014 hit "Manam" getting a re-release later this month. The film's re-release will coincide with its 10th anniversary.

"#Manam holds a very special place in my heart .. thrilled that we are bringing it back to the theatres to celebrate 10years," tweeted Chaitanya.

The trend of re-releases has gained a lot of traction in recent months due to delays in the release of new movies. Many much-awaited movies have postponed their theatrical debuts because of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. With the elections scheduled to go on until the end of May, theatres across South India are craving exciting movies to draw audiences. So much so that many theatres in the Telugu states have voluntarily decided to shut their operations until the situation improves. The dwindling footfalls in cinemas and rising costs have been cited as primary reasons for the temporary closure of theatres.

Theatres in Tamil Nadu were in a similar situation a few months ago. The stakeholders there realized the nostalgic value of past blockbusters to stay afloat during the box office dry spell. Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay's "Ghilli" revived the theatrical business in Tamil Nadu and set a new box office benchmark for a re-release movie.

It remains to be seen whether "Manam" can provide relief for embattled theatres in the Telugu states. Helmed by Vikram Kumar, "Manam" was a big hit at the box office when it was first released in 2014. The film is also very special for the Akkineni family as it was the last film of the legendary actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao. Akkineni passed away before the release of the film in January 2014.

"Manam" is a multi-generational tale, starring ANR, Nagarjuna, and Naga Chaitanya, alongside Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Shriya Saran. The film is also available for streaming on SunNXT.
