Mallika Sherawat is currently on a promotional spree for her upcoming film Rk/RKay opposite Ranvir Shorey. The actress is not the one to mince her words and in a recent interview, she compared her hit 2004 film Murder with Deepika Padukone ’s recently released film Gehraiyaan . Mallika revealed that what Deepika did in her movie, she had done the same 15 years ago but instead had to go through a lot of judgments due to society being narrow-minded.
Talking about the same with Prabhat Khabar, Mallika Sherawat said that after starring in Murder, people only talked about her bikini stint and steamy scenes with Emraan Hashmi instead of anyone speaking about her acting chops. The Welcome actress had said, “Such hue and cry were created when I did Murder. People said all kinds of things about the kiss and the bikini. What Deepika Padukone did in Gehraiyaan, I did that 15 years ago, but people were too narrow-minded back then. I should tell you that a section of the industry and media was mentally torturing me. These people only talked about my body and glamour, not my acting. I worked in Dasavatharam, Pyaar Ke Side Effects, and Welcome, but none talked about my acting.”
For the unversed, both Murder and Gehraiyaan revolved around the concept of infidelity with quite a lot of bold scenes involving the female protagonist. Mallika Sherawat also pointed out a good change in the industry with the way roles have been written for central female characters in the female. The actress said that earlier women were either shown as ‘Sati-Savitri’ types or straight-up vamps.
Mallika Sherawat said, “Earlier, the heroines were either too good, sati-savitri types who were too innocent to know anything, or they were the characterless vamps. These were the only two types of roles written for heroines. The change that we see now, shows women as humans. She can be happy or sad. She can make mistakes, she can falter, and you love them despite all of that. The heroines are more confident about their bodies as well.” Talking about her film Rk/RKay, the movie has been helmed by Rajat Kapur and is all set to be released on July 22, 2022.
