Maharaja trailer: Vijay Sethupathi, Anurag Kashyap promise a nail-biting revenge drama
Maharaja seems to be packed with raw action sequences. It's been a long time since we saw Vijay Sethupathi in a role that fully utilized his acting potential.
Maharaja trailer is out.
Tamil star Vijay Sethupathi on Thursday unveiled the trailer for his upcoming movie, Maharaja. Written and directed by Nithilan Saminathan, Maharaja promises a nail-biting revenge drama with a strong social commentary.
The trailer opens with a battered Vijay Sethupathi's Maharaja reaching the police station to file a complaint. He seems to have lost 'Lakshmi' and wants the cop to find "it." Based on the trailer, it's hard to say whether 'Lakshmi' is a person or a thing very close to Maharaja's heart.
"Is it gold, money, or documents? What have you lost? What is Lakshmi?" asks the cop. A deeply disturbed and anxious Maharaja struggles to explain what he has lost. It seems like he's searching for a ghost. However, he's determined to find Lakshmi, so much so that he warns the cops of dire consequences should they fail to find it.
Maharaja also seems to be packed with raw action sequences. It's been a long time since we saw Vijay Sethupathi in a role that fully utilized his acting potential. In the last few years, he has taken on a series of supporting roles in several movies, keeping him from taking up more challenging parts.
One of the highlights seems to be the face-off between the characters of Vijay Sethupathi and Anurag Kashyap. Even though Anurag makes a blink-and-miss appearance in the trailer, his devilish grin is enough to evoke our imagination about the kind of evil acts his character is capable of.
Director Nithilan Saminathan is making a comeback with Maharaja after a gap of seven years. He made quite an impression on movie buffs with his directorial debut Kurangu Bommai, which came out in 2017. He has taken his own sweet time to make his second directorial venture, which seems to revolve around a barber's quest for vengeance.
Maharaja also stars Mamta Mohandas, Natty (Natraj), Bharathiraja, Abhirami, Singampuli, Aruldoss, and Munishkanth among others.
