Netflix has acquired the streaming rights to Tamil star Vijay Sethupathi's latest movie, Maharaja. The film, released on June 14, is currently running successfully in cinemas. Based on previous patterns, Maharaja is expected to debut on Netflix within the next three weeks.

All new Tamil movies partnered with Netflix have not had extended theatrical runs, regardless of their performance. For example, Thalapathy Vijay's Leo became available for streaming on the platform just over five weeks after its theatrical debut. Notably, its strong box office performance did not delay its early streaming release.

It's safe to assume that Maharaja may follow suit and make its digital premiere after approximately four weeks in theaters. We can expect the film to be available for streaming by July 14.

Currently, Maharaja is performing very well at the box office, exceeding trade expectations. Made at a cost of Rs 20 crore, the film has already surpassed the Rs 50 crore mark by the end of its first week . If this performance continues, it might even breach the Rs 100 crore mark globally in the coming days.

Maharaja has given a much-needed boost to Vijay Sethupathi's career. As an actor, he is a force to reckon with in the Indian film industry and has starred in several successful movies and web series, including Vikram, Jawan, and Farzi. However, questions had been raised recently about Sethupathi's potential as a star to draw an audience.

Maharaja demonstrated that Sethupathi enjoys a rare privilege among his peers, allowing him to play a villain in one film and a saviour in the next. Audiences seem to have no trouble accepting him in both roles.

Written and directed by Nithilan Saminathan, Maharaja also stars Mamta Mohandas, Natarajan Subramaniam, and Abhirami.
