Maharaj first poster: Jaideep Ahlawat and Junaid Khan are at loggerheads in this thrilling drama set in pre-Independence era

Aamir Khan’s son Junaid Khan is making his acting debut with Siddharth Malhotra’s thrilling period drama film Maharaj. Starring Jaideep Ahlawat, Shalini Pandey and Sharvari, the film tells the tale of a fearless journalist named Karsandas Mulji and his battle against a powerful man in the pre-Independence era. The makers of Maharaj recently shared the first poster of the film on social media, revealing the OTT release date of the movie.

Maharaj first poster unveiled

Taking to Instagram, the makers of Maharaj released the first poster of the film on the official Instagram handle of Netflix India. The caption read, “The fight for the truth between a powerful man and a fearless journalist. Based on true events - Maharaj is releasing on 14 June, only on Netflix!”

The poster showcases Jaideep in the avatar of a sadhu, wearing a long yellow tika on his forehead, a yellow ribbon in his top knot and rudraksh malas on his neck. Junaid, on the other hand, does not look recognisable with his long curly hair and thin moustache. In the poster, the two seem to be at loggerheads with one another.

Junaid’s attire, consisting of a white shirt, topped with a brown vest, surely exudes vibes of the colonial era. According to the synopsis of the film, Maharaj showcases the courageous journey of a man in the pre-independence era.

Maharaj plot

Based on a real-life story, Maharaj depicts a landmark legal battle that took place 160 years ago. Junaid plays the role of Karsandas Mulji, a journalist who was a staunch advocate of women’s rights and social reform.

Maharaj release date

Helmed by Siddharth P Malhotra, Maharaj is produced by Aditya Chopra under YRF Entertainment. Starring Jaideep Ahlawat, Junaid Khan, Shalini Pandey and Sharvari, the film will release on Netflix on June 14.
