That Sanjay Leela Bhansali is someone who has always been associated with the terms like larger than life, opulence, grandeur and other like terms is one busy man these days. He is now super busy with his most talked about and extremely awaited film Love And war, which stars his eternal favourite Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal.

Speaking about his upcoming film Love And war, in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, India, the master filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali was asked about the internet theory buzz about his film Love And war being a remake of the eternal great filmmaker Raj Kapoor’s Sangam.

On his part, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, with his standard confidence intact, replied with a vehement denial. He said, “Not at all. I love Sangam. I have watched it. Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam is also like Sangam. I tried to make Aishwarya Rai into Vyjayantimala from Sangam. Vyjayantimala is the biggest star and the most beautiful woman on the Indian screen according to me.

So, when I saw her in Sangam, I thought to myself ‘Oh My God! Is this how it works? Vyjayantimala is beautiful. But nobody has seen her as beautiful as Raj Kapoor. Nobody has seen Zeenat Aman as beautiful as Raj Kapoor. Nobody has seen Padmini Kolhapure as beautiful as Raj Kapoor.

I always wanted to meet this man (referring to the late Raj Kapoor). I am a sponge, when I meet you, I will take all the creative processes and the thought processes. The way one laughs and when the person laughs, I understand everything. I am a sponge. That’s how I understand my actors also. It's not Sangam!

With all my love for Raj Kapoor… you never remake a great man’s classic. How can anyone remake Mughal E Azam, Sangam or Pakeezah. Heeramandi is a tribute to Pakeezah. Heeramandi is my love for Kamal Amrohi, who knew the beauty and love for the rich life and style… the opulence! One cannot remake Mother India or Sholay. Why will I then remake Sangam!
