Filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj is all set to kick-start his maiden collaboration with Superstar Rajinikanth titled Coolie. With just a few days left before filming begins, Lokesh has started sharing some key updates regarding the project.

On Wednesday, Lokesh tweeted a photo revealing his cinematographer for Coolie. "Happy to have you onboard once again @girishganges machi. Cast updates coming soon!," wrote Lokesh.

Cinematographer Girish Gangadharan is one of the most sought-after technicians in the South Indian film industry. Most of his work lies in Malayalam cinema. He's known for shooting blockbusters like Neelakasham Pachakadal Chuvanna Bhoomi, Angamaly Diaries, and Jallikkattu, to name a few. He has also shot several popular Tamil movies, including Thalapathy Vijay's Sarkar.

Coolie is not Girish's first collaboration with Lokesh. He earlier handled the camera for Lokesh's 2022 blockbuster Vikram, starring Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan.

Earlier, speculations were rife that cameraman Manoj Paramahamsa, who shot Lokesh's last movie Leo, would also shoot Coolie.

A team of Lokesh's assistants along with key technicians has already reached Hyderabad to begin the pre-production work. The film is expected to go on the floors next week.

Earlier, Lokesh unveiled an announcement video revealing Rajinikanth's action avatar from Coolie. The film's core plot seems to revolve around the world of smuggling and is likely set against the backdrop of a sea harbour.

Lokesh earlier clarified that Coolie won't be part of his cinematic universe. The director has created a movieverse around the menace of the drug mafia with movies like Kaithi and Vikram. His recent release Leo was also a new entrant to the cinematic universe.

However, he started Coolie by clearly stating that it's a standalone film and has nothing to do with the LCU, which stands for Lokesh Cinematic Universe.
