Filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj was one of the chief guests at the audio release event of the upcoming movie Amaran, alongside maverick director Mani Ratnam. Their presence appeared to compensate for the absence of Kamal Haasan, who is producing the film under his banner Raaj Kamal Films International.
Kamal Haasan, who actively participated in earlier promotional events, is currently in the US preparing for his next project with the stunt master duo Anbarivu.
At the event, Lokesh Kanagaraj, a self-proclaimed die-hard fan of Kamal Haasan, showered praise on Sivakarthikeyan, who plays the lead role in Amaran. During his speech, he shared Kamal's emotional reaction after watching the movie. "I heard that Kamal sir watched Amaran with a box of tissues beside him. That's how impactful the movie is," Lokesh revealed.
He went on to describe Amaran as more than just a blockbuster. "This is not a typical commercial film. It’s a story about one of our own who sacrificed his life protecting the country’s borders. It’s our pride, and I’m confident this movie will make us all proud," Lokesh added.
Lokesh also hinted at a potential collaboration with Sivakarthikeyan, teasing fans with a reference to a scene in Thalapathy Vijay's recent film The Greatest of All Time (The GOAT). "We have been in talks for some time now, just waiting for the right moment. And yes, he received the 'thuppakki' (gun), didn’t he?" he joked, referencing the cameo where Vijay symbolically passes the torch to Sivakarthikeyan in The GOAT.
Amaran, written and directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, is based on the life of the late Major Mukund Varadarajan. The movie also stars Sai Pallavi as the female lead. The film is due in cinemas on October 31.
