Kottukkaali release date announced: Sivakarthikeyan's passion project hits theatres in August

Actor-producer Sivakarthikeyan on Tuesday confirmed the release date of his highly-acclaimed movie, Kottukkaali. His production banner, Sivakarthikeyan Productions, also unveiled a new promo, announcing that the movie will open in cinemas worldwide on August 23.

Kottukkaali has been a passion project for Sivakarthikeyan. Impressed by director PS Vinothraj's debut feature Koozhangal (aka Pebbles), Sivakarthikeyan came on board to bankroll Kottukkaali. The film has been making rounds in the international film circuit for months now. Starring Soori and Anna Ben in lead roles, Kottukkaali has swept several awards at prestigious film festivals globally.

Last month, Kottukkaali won top honours at TIFF Romania, leaving the cast and crew overjoyed. "As artists, uncertainty is a huge part of this job and it is something I struggle with. For the most part, I wait for things, calls, emails, callbacks, and whatnot! And when you begin to question your relevance, something like this happens… A movie I did a year ago, a character I will always cherish given to me by the amazing director @psvinothraj, winning the special jury award in the main competition at @tiffromania! Life is crazy, stupid, and wonderful," said Anna Ben about Kottukkaali's performance at festivals.

Kottukkaali had its world premiere at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival in February earlier this year. Since then, it has been screened at several festivals, including the Transilvania International Film Festival and the Portugal International Film Festival.

The latest promo for Kottukkaali is very simplistic, but it seems to hint at the core of the film's plot. The film revolves around three living beings: a man, a woman, and a rooster. The teasers shared by the filmmakers have not revealed much about the movie's main plot. However, they have been very effective in convincing the audience to expect a gripping and intense drama about prejudices against women.
