Three highly anticipated films - Khel Khel Mein, Vedaa and Stree 2 - were released on Independence Day this year. While Shraddha Kapoor's Stree 2 became the biggest opener of the year, the Akshay Kumar-starrer Khel Khel Mein and John Abraham-starrer Vedaa lagged behind the horror comedy and failed to even touch the Rs 10-crore mark. Khel Khel Mein earned Rs 5 crore on day one, while Vedaa collected Rs 6.52 crore on opening day.

Khel Khel Mein box office collection

According to Sacnilk.com, Mudassar Aziz’s Khel Khel Mein was the least favoured choice of the audience, earning only Rs 5 crore at the box office on opening day. The comedy-drama film features Akshay Kumar, Taapsee Pannu, Ammy Virk, Vaani Kapoor, Pragya Jaiswal, Fardeen Khan and Aditya Seal.

Khel Khel Mein has been added to Akshay Kumar’s long list of consecutive flop films. Akshay’s last film Sarfira tanked at the office with a Rs 21.85 crore gross box office collection. His other films Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Mission Raniganj also did not perform well at the box office.

    Vedaa box office collection

On the other hand, John Abraham and Sharvari Wagh’s drama film Vedaa could not touch the Rs 10-crore mark either and earned Rs 6.52 crore at the box office on opening day with an occupancy of 35.63 percent.

This is one of the lowest opening-day collections for a John Abraham film. His other films such as Batla House and Satyamev Jayate earned more than Rs 10 crore on day one. His last film Ek Villain Returns collected Rs 7.05 crore on opening day.   But Vedaa has earned positive reviews from users on social media and is expected to perform well this weekend due to word of mouth.

On the other hand, Sharvari Wagh’s last theatrical release, Munjya turned out to be a box office success with a total collection of Rs 132 crore. The actress was last seen in Maharaj, alongside Aamir Khan’s son Junaid Khan.

    Stree 2 wins

Stree 2 won the box office clash against Khel Khel Mein and Vedaa with a total collection of Rs 54.35 crore on opening day. The film stars Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor in pivotal roles and is directed by Jayprad Desai.
