Keerthy Suresh's Raghu Thatha to clash with Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2
With no other big films ready to clash with Pushpa 2 at the box office, a conducive environment was created for a humble film like Raghu Thatha.
Raghu Thatha will release along with Pushpa 2.
Actor Keerthy Suresh confirmed the release date of her upcoming movie, Raghu Thatha, on Friday. The feel-good film will hit the screens on August 15. "#RaghuThatha, Kayalvizhi’s heart-warming adventure is coming to theatres near you. Get ready for a hilarious, emotional, and empowering rollercoaster ride! #RaghuThatha releases on 15th August 2024! Can’t wait for you guys to watch this!" she tweeted.
Raghu Thatha's release coincides with Telugu superstar Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2: The Rule. The makers of Pushpa 2 announced the release date last year targeting the upcoming Independence Day holiday. With no other big films ready to clash with Pushpa 2 at the box office, a conducive environment was created for a humble film like Raghu Thatha.
Filmmaker Suman Kumar has written and directed Raghu Thatha for the Bengaluru-based production house Hombale Films. The production house has had quite an impact on the Indian film industry by bankrolling some ground-breaking Kannada movies, including KGF 1 and 2 and Kantara. The company is also expanding its footprint by producing films in various languages. Hombale Films entered the Telugu film industry with the Prabhas starrer Salaar and in Malayalam, the producers bankrolled Dhoomam. The company is set to foray into the Tamil film industry with Raghu Thatha.
The filmmakers seem to have made a strategic choice with Raghu Thatha, as the film's main theme deeply resonates with the culture and politics of Tamil Nadu. Judging from the teaser, Raghu Thatha seems to make a pointed yet hilarious statement against the Hindi imposition.
In the film, Keerthy Suresh plays the role of a young woman leading the protest against the Hindi imposition, going so far as to turn down a promotion that requires her to learn Hindi.
The film also stars M. S. Bhaskar, Ravindra Vijay, Devadarshini, Rajeev Ravindranathan, Jayakumar, Anandsami, Rajesh Balachandiran, and Ismath Banu.
