Karan Johar's Dharma Productions to sell 50% stake to Adar Poonawalla for Rs 1000 crore? Find out

Since the last few days, there were big speculations about Karan Johar wanting to sell off his company Dharma Productions. Ever since the news broke out, there were many names which were sprung up as the prospective buyers. It now seems that the prestigious Dharma Productions has now finally found a buyer!

As per a source-based news report in Economic Times, it is none other than the multi billionaire vaccine maker Adar Poonawalla, who happens to be the CEO of the Serum Institute of India, will now be picking up a 50% stake in Dharma Production and Dharmatic Entertainment. The reported cost of the said deal has been a staggering Rs 1000 crores!

The report stated that Poonawalla will be making the aforementioned investment in his private capacity through ‘Serene Productions’. On the other hand, Dharma would be retaining the residual stake with Karan Johar, who owns 90.7% of the company while his mother Hiroo Johar holds 9.24% of the company. Media reports state that a formal announcement is expected to be made this week.

In no time, the said deal was made public, there were many who showed their concerns. One user wrote, ‘I think it’s very undervalued. He sold them very cheap. Imagine the royalty of all those songs and films! Even though one knows that Karan Johar is a shrewd businessman, one should also know that, at the end of the day, he is a human being. I just hope that, it’s a no regret amount for which the deal has been done’.

Another user posted, ‘OMG! Is Dharma undergoing a bad state? Or is it the smart businessman Karan Johar pulling up yet another ace up his sleeve? Whatever be the case, I just hope that Karan or his family should not suffer at the end of the day. He has a mother and two kids to be taken care of. Whatever one may talk about or talk of Karan Johar, I have full respect for this man. And on the other side, there is Adar Poonawalla, who is a master vaccine maker. When he does not let anyone die or Corona, he will surely hold the boats and oars of Dharma Productions as well!’
