There is a famous English adage (by the literary great William Shakespeare) which states, ‘What’s in a name?’ Well… if your name is Karan Johar, then, there is a lot which lies in your name. After all, it's not a name anymore/ All thanks to his years and years of incessant hard work and meticulous planning, Karan Johar, today, is no longer a name… it has become a brand! A brand… on which many (FMCG) brands are riding!
No wonder then, filmmaker Karan Johar was not at all pleased when he came across a film title that read as Shaadi Ke Director Karan Aur Johar. Filmmaker Karan Johar, then, went on to file a lawsuit in the Bombay High Court against Bablu Singh (who happens to be the writer and director) of the aforementioned film. Besides him, Karan also filed a lawsuit against the film’s producer India Pride Advisory and Sanjay Singh, as per a report in Hindustan Times.
On his part, Karan Johar has sought a plea for an immediate prohibition of the release of Shaadi Ke Director Karan Aur Johar, which had been scheduled to be released on June 14. In addition to that, the aforementioned report stated that, Karan Johar had also gone ahead and filed an interim application in which he sought the suspension of the film's release during the ongoing litigation’. The said plea was presented before the single bench of Justice RI Chagla.
Karan Johar very clearly proclaimed that he had no affiliations whatsoever with the film Shaadi Ke Director Karan Aur Johar and that the makers of the said film were illegally misusing his name without any authorisation. As per the plea filed by Karan Johar, it has also been said that, because of the various promotional material of the film Shaadi Ke Director Karan Aur Johar in the form of its trailers and posters, it had caused severe damage to his name and goodwill.
On the work front, the gripping trailer of the Karan Johar produced Kill got released to a whole lot of appreciation from almost everyone, despite the hardcore violence in the film. The film is slated to be released on July 5th, 2024
