The teaser for the upcoming Telugu epic fantasy Kannappa was unveiled on Friday. The film can be termed the most ambitious movie in Vishnu Manchu's career. With mythological movies finding bigger success with movie-going audiences in India, Vishnu Manchu seems confident that Kannappa will strike a chord with the masses.

The teaser for Kannappa is solely edited to give audiences a glimpse into the scale of the movie in terms of its star cast. The film boasts an all-star supporting cast and includes cameos from some of India's biggest superstars.

The teaser makes one thing clear: it's not entirely based on the legend of Kannappa. For the uninitiated, the mythical story tells the tale of an archer who one-day stumbles upon the hidden shrine of a Shiva Linga and becomes its devotee. Unlike traditional worshippers, Kannappa didn't know the proper rituals. He offered what he knew: meat from his hunts and water from his mouth. And when needed, he even sacrifices his eyes in devotion to Lord Shiva. Thus, he becomes famous as Kannappa.

However, Kannappa, the movie, seems to take a few ideas from the legend, but tells a different devotional story. The teaser begins with a war for a Vayulinga, a representation of Lord Shiva. One tribe wages war on another to gain control of the Vayulinga but ends up being impressed by the fighting skills of Kannappa, played by Vishnu Manchu.

The rival tribe is unwavering in its determination to gain control of the Vayulinga and launches a full-blown attack. The narrative seems to test Kannappa's faith in more than one way.

The highlight of the movie appears to be its action sequences and the superstar cameos. We get glimpses of Malayalam superstar Mohanlal, Bollywood star Akshay Kumar, and Telugu superstar Prabhas. All seem to play avatars of Lord Shiva.

Kannappa is expected to hit the screens later this year.
