Kanguva star Suriya leaves fans in awe as he reveals reason behind shifting base to Mumbai with wife Jyothika; here's why
In a recent interview, Suriya, who is awaiting the release of Kanguva, opened up about shifting his base from Chennai to Mumbai.
Suriya and Jyotika
Kanguva star and the beloved Kollywood actor Suriya recently moved from Chennai to Mumbai. He made headlines after he purchased a home in Mumbai valued at Rs 70 crore. While there was speculation surrounding the actor’s sudden relocation with his family, Suriya recently revealed the reason behind this decision.
Suriya movies to Mumbai for Jyothika
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Suriya explained that his wife, actress Jyothika, had lived in Chennai for nearly 27 years. He shared that his move to Mumbai was, in part, to give Jyothika the space to reconnect with the city where she grew up, as she had missed out on time with family and friends there. Suriya remarked, “Jyothika moved to Chennai at 18 or 19, and then spent almost 27 years there. In contrast, she had only 18 years in her hometown, Mumbai. In Chennai, she adapted to my family, set aside her career, left her friends, and shifted from her Bandra lifestyle. Now, she’s genuinely happy spending time with her parents and reconnecting in Mumbai after all these years.”
He said, “Whatever a man needs, a woman also needs. I think I am a late bloomer and may have been late to understand this better, but yes, she needs that motivation, quality time with her friends, financial independence, her gym time, and everything else we crave—she equally needs it. So why take away her time to spend with her parents or doing what she loves? When are we going to make that change, and why should it always be about ‘me’ and ‘I’?” He added, "I am happy to see her growth."
This part of the interview, which has gone viral on social media, has fans praising Suriya as a true gentleman and calling the couple "relationship goals".
He further stated that his children were moved to Mumbai for better educational opportunities. He also shared that he dedicates 10 days each month solely to his family, setting aside all work-related activities during this time. He admitted to having missed out on many important events with his family and is now making up for it by spending more time with them.
Suriya married his longtime girlfriend and frequent co-star Jyotika in 2006, and they are blessed with two children, Diya and Dev. The couple, often seen supporting each other’s projects, has consistently remained one of Kollywood’s most beloved pairs among fans.
Suriya's upcoming project
Suriya’s upcoming film, Kanguva, is scheduled for a massive release on November 14, 2024. The period action-fantasy film also stars Bobby Deol and Disha Patani in key roles.
