Kangana Ranaut took to social media celebrating the revival of the box office in the country with films like Valimai and Gangubai Kathiawadi which have taken bumper openings in their own space. While Thala Ajith starrer opened on Thursday to nationwide collections of a staggering Rs. 76 croroes, Alia Bhatt brought in some good news for Bollywood on Friday with her film Gangubai Kathiawadi earning over Rs. 10 crores on Day 1.
Celebrating the success of both films Kangana penned a note and shared it in her Instagram stories. The actress who had predicted Alia’s Gangubai Kathiawadi to be a box office disaster ate her words from her previous note and in her own way applauded the success of the film on its opening day. “Never expected that movie mafia will rise to the occasion and do something good...” wrote Kangana referring to Alia’s film directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali without taking any names.
Her note read: “Happy to hear theatres are being revived in South film industry with record-breaking collections.... I hear some baby steps are being taken is Hindi belt also... With recent female centric film which has a big hero and a super star director.... They may he baby steps but they are not insignificant, they will be crucial for theatres which are on ventilator here.. Great !!! Never expected that movie mafia will rise to the occasion and do something good... If they do we will be absolutely appreciative .. Hoping for the best.”
In a long note posted a few days before Gangubai Kathiawadi’s release she had referred to Alia Bhatt as ‘papa ki pari’ and said that on the film’s opening day ‘200cr will be burnt to ashes at the box office.’ She also criticized Alia’s casting in the project and said ‘Bollywood is destined for doom’ as Hollywood and South films are surpassing the business of Hindi films and eating their business.
Alia’s acting in Gangubai Kathiawadi has been called the highlight of the film as reviews poured in on Friday. The movie has opened to rave reviews and solidified Alia’s standing as the top actress in Bollywood with the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film taking the third biggest opening of the pandemic era behind Sooryavanshi and 83 and the biggest with a female lead.
