Kangana Ranaut attacks Aamir Khan's superstar status, says actor charges Rs. 200 crore for Rs. 2 crore job

Kangana Ranaut took a jibe at Aamir Khan and his ‘superstar’ status in a recent interview. She said that the reason behind the failure of the actor’s film Laal Singh Chaddha isn’t the boycott culture but reflection of the awareness of the cinema going audience. The Dhaakad actress also referred to Aamir’s speech about raising intolerance in the country from 2015 and accused Aamir of criticizing India and its culture around the world.

Speaking with India Today, Kangana denied the presence of a ‘boycott culture’ in the country and said that the audience has now actually come to question the superstar status of certain actors. Referring to Aamir, Kangana said that ‘superstars’ charge Rs. 200 crores for jobs worth Rs. 2 crores and even called him out for meeting the first lady Emine Eddogan of Turkey.

Suggesting that Laal Singh Chaddha, Aamir’s Indian remake of Forrest Gump did not fail due to the audience but the actor himself, Kangana said, "All this made the common man question 'if you are the right person who I should think of as a superstar?', or 'are you the person who I would like to give a part of my hard-earned money'. People who love their country have started to question if they should watch him. This is an awareness in this country and it is not related to the boycott culture."

Aamir Khan’s film made on a budget of nearly Rs. 180 crores wrapped up at the box office with close to Rs. 60 crores in collection upon release in August. Not long before Aamir’s mega box office disaster, Kangana too had delivered a mega flop with her film Dhakaad in May which earned less than Rs. 4 crores in its lifetime.

According to Kangana the only films working in the country at the moment are those which are full of ‘Indianness’ and not those film which are busy aping the West.
