It wouldn't be wrong to say that Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan's "Indian 2" is one of the most-awaited movies of 2024. The latest buzz is that the film might not be released in June as announced earlier. The producers had previously claimed that the film would release in cinemas in June, without confirming the exact release date.
However, industry sources are now convinced that the film's release is likely to be delayed once again. An official confirmation is awaited. "Indian 2" is now expected to hit the screens on July 13, with an announcement on the same expected soon.
Many big-budget movies, including "Indian 2", were delayed owing to the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. The elections are set to continue until the end of May, with results due on June 4. Major movies across South India will hit the screens after the excitement surrounding the elections settles down.
The production of "Indian 2" has faced numerous delays for several reasons. The film's shooting came to a sudden stop following a freak accident on the sets in Chennai that killed three crew members. Kamal and director Shankar claimed that they both escaped the accident "just by a whisker." The subsequent outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and the falling out between Shankar and producers, Lyca Productions, put a big question mark on the fate of "Indian 2".
However, the film's shooting resumed following the humongous success of "Vikram". With Red Giant Movies coming on board as new producers, the project was revived.
According to reports, Shankar has also completed shooting "Indian 3" during the second phase of production.
"Indian 2" is a sequel to the 1996 blockbuster Indian, and Kamal will reprise his iconic Indian 'thatha' role in the follow-up movie.
