Actress Abhirami is a huge fan of Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan, and she is more than thrilled to be sharing screen space with him in the upcoming movie Thug Life. This is her second onscreen reunion with Kamal. The duo had shared crackling chemistry in the cult classic Virumaandi, which has emerged as an iconic film in the history of Tamil cinema.
In a recent interview, Abhirami revealed a behind-the-scenes conversation she had with Kamal on the sets of Thug Life. She recalled that Kamal revealed his biggest fear in life. He seemed to be afraid of reaching such great heights in his career that he becomes inaccessible to contemporary filmmakers.
"He (Kamal) said, 'I am afraid that one day I would wake up and if I didn't have anything to do, I don't know how to deal with it. I want to stay busy, and I want to stay relevant. Sometimes it gets lonely when you reach great heights. I don't want to be lonely. I want to be around people, and keep learning new things'," recalled Abhirami.
Abhirami, however, revealed that she felt a little intimidated on the sets of Thug Life, as she is collaborating with director Mani Ratnam for the first time. She noted that Mani Ratnam is a tough taskmaster and is very stingy with praise.
"He (Mani Ratnam) is a very giving director. He will give you as much explanation as you want, but he is not generous with compliments. He will just say, 'Okay, cut,' and move on to the next shot. But when he tells you, 'Hey, that was good,' the thrill that you experience is something else," she noted, adding that she received such praise from the director many times during the shooting of Thug Life.
Thug Life is one of the most-awaited movies as it marks Kamal and Mani Ratnam's reunion after more than 35 years. The film is expected to hit the screens later this year.
