Kamal Haasan dubs for Kalki 2898 AD.
Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan recently completed dubbing his portions for the upcoming Telugu epic, Kalki 2898 AD. A video of Kamal visiting a studio in Chennai to finish the dubbing process has surfaced online. Director Nag Ashwin was also present, monitoring the process.
Kamal plays the main antagonist in Kalki 2898 AD, which stars Telugu superstar Prabhas in the lead role. This is arguably the first time in his career that he has taken on a villain role in a movie led by another star. However, Kamal is no stranger to playing antagonistic roles. In Sigappu Rojakkal (1978), Kamal portrayed a psychopathic serial killer targeting young women. In Dasavathaaram, he played ten different roles, one of which was Christian Fletcher, a rogue ex-CIA agent.
Kalki 2898 AD holds a distinguished place in Kamal's career for this reason. “The reason I accepted to do this film is because I come from the analogous cinema. Without the negative, there’s no positive, so a negative role is an important role in a film," Kamal said while promoting the movie at the San Diego Comic-Con.
Kamal was the last member to join the film's cast, taking everyone by surprise. He expressed faith in Nag Ashwin's vision and his admiration for India's rich mythology as reasons for agreeing to be part of this project.
The filmmakers have not yet revealed Kamal's look from the movie. Fans hope to get a glimpse of his character in the trailer, which is set to be launched on Monday. The filmmakers have planned a grand promotional strategy that will kick into motion with the trailer launch.
Kalki 2898 AD is set to hit the screens on June 27.
