The censor board on Wednesday cleared the upcoming Telugu science-fiction film Kalki 2898 AD, starring Prabhas, for theatrical release with a U/A certificate. This certification makes the movie eligible for viewing by all age groups. However, audiences younger than 12 years are advised to watch it under parental supervision.
The producers have promoted Kalki 2898 AD as a wholesome family movie and have widely created advertisement campaigns to appeal to children. This film is touted as India's answer to the Marvel movies. The filmmakers have also launched an animated web series, comic books, and various collectables aiming to capture the imagination of young audiences.
According to some reports, Kalki 2898 AD seems to have impressed the members of the censor board. "Reliable sources from the censor screening of #Kalki2898AD say that the censor board members were amazed by the stunning visuals of the film and wholeheartedly appreciated the crew. They reported never-before-seen visual standards in Indian cinema. Hearing that #Prabhas, #KamalHaasan, and #Amitabh’s sequences have come out well! There are many unexpected cameos from big stars, and the cliffhanger at the end will stun viewers. The film is certified U/A and has a duration of nearly 3 hours," tweeted film journalist Rajasekar.
Kalki 2898 AD is 176 minutes long and is said to mark the dawn of a new cinematic universe in Indian cinema.
The producers have spent a whopping Rs 600 crore to make this sci-fi epic. However, they seem to have taken a soft approach rather than an aggressive wall-to-wall approach to promote the movie. The film, however, is likely to take the biggest opening at the box office.
Besides Prabhas, the film also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone, and Disha Patani. Kalki 2898 AD is due in cinemas on June 27.
