Kalki 2898 AD box office collection day 1: Prabhas' mythlogical epic takes 2024's biggest opening

Kalki 2898 AD earned more than Rs 100 crore just from its pre-release ticket sales. The trade projected the possibility of it becoming the first Indian film to earn Rs 200 crore on its opening day , and the film is set to achieve that feat.
The film started playing in cinemas in India as early as 5 AM. Theatres have added plenty of extra shows, and it's dominating cinemas across the country. In Telugu states alone, the film is expected to earn about Rs 35 crore by the end of day one. Similarly, its performance in the neighbouring southern states is also expected to be exceptional.
Kalki 2898 AD has also clicked very well with the masses in Tamil Nadu. It seems the presence of Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan in the cast has ensured a strong opening there. The film has also generated a strong positive response in Kerala. According to early reports, the film might earn more than Rs 2 crore in Kerala alone, where it didn't see very encouraging advance bookings before the release.
The performance of the movie in Kerala suggests a trend that might be replicated in other parts of the country. Not just in the south, Kalki 2898 AD has also taken a big opening in North India. The film is also showing a strong performance in North America, one of the key international markets for Telugu cinema. The film has earned more than $3.5 million just from its Thursday premieres.
Judging from the initial trends, the Rs 200-crore opening seems to be well within reach for Kalki 2898 AD.
