Juhi Chawla rejected
Every Bollywood enthusiast can swear by drooling over the grandeur and beauty of the Sooraj Barjatya directorial Hum Aapke Hain Koun that had starred Madhuri Dixit and Salman Khan in the lead roles. The film was a delightful concoction of romance, familial love, music, costumes, wedding, and all things larger-than-life. As the film completes 28 years today (August 5), here are looking at some interesting trivia from the same.
Did you know that Juhi Chawla ’s loss had become Madhuri Dixit’s gain in Hum Aapke Hain Koun? Juhi had approached the director Sooraj Barjatya personally to be a part of the movie. However, Madhuri had already been cast as Nisha till then and the rest we know is history. However, not only Madhuri but also Salman Khan had other rivals for the role of Prem in the film. Initially, Aamir Khan was approached for the role but after the latter denied, Salman was roped in for playing the character and a superstar was born after that, quite literally.
Earlier in a 2014 interview with Rediff Mail, Juhi Chawla had hinted how she was upset with the film Hum Aapke Hain Koun going to Madhuri Dixit instead of her. The actress had said, “Yes. I’ll give you an example of Madhuri. I saw her in Hum Aapke Hai Koun…! and I said to myself, ‘I wish I would have got that film.’ I would have done anything to bag that role. I loved the way she danced and her screen presence. I guess I lack that. I secretly admired her and aspired to do some things like her, but I couldn’t. It’s a human tendency to be jealous and envious of other person’s work and it happens with everyone.”
Coincidentally, Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla collaborated on the 2014 film Gulab Gang. Talking about Hum Aapke Hain Koun, the movie also starred Anupam Kher, Renuka Shahane, Mohnish Bahl, Alok Nath, and the late Reema Lagoo in pivotal roles. Well, needless to say, the film will forever remain timeless in every cinema lover’s hearts.
