Jigra box office collection day 1: Alia Bhatt’s latest release earns only Rs 4.25 crore, becomes one of the lowest openers for the actress

Alia Bhatt recently graced the silver screen by starring in Vasan Bala’s action-adventure, thriller drama film Jigra, alongside Vedang Raina. After receiving mixed reviews from users on social media, Jigra turned out to be the lowest opener of Alia’s career since Highway, which was released in 2014.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Jigra collected a total of Rs 4.25 crore net on its opening day. The film’s collection are the lowest in Alia’s career since 2014 making Jigra the second lowest opening of the actress’ career.
Released in Hindi and Telugu, occupying 3000 shows all over the country, the film witnessed an overall occupancy of 20.13 percent in Hindi and collected Rs 4.2 crore while the film had an occupancy of 20.17 percent and earned Rs 50,000 in the Telugu language.
Highway (2014), on the other hand, collected Rs 3.4 crore on opening day and earned Rs 30 in total in India. Highway witnessed the lowest opening day collections in Alia’s career till today. It was Alia’s second film after her debut, Student of the Year.
Jigra faced a box office clash with Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri starrer Vicky Aur Vidya Ki Woh Wala Video that earned Rs 5 crore on its opening day.

Helmed by Vasan Bala, Jigra starring Alia Bhatt, Vedang Raina and Manoj Pahwa revolves around the lives of sibling duo- Satya and Ankur. After Ankur gets jailed for illegal possession of substance in a foreign land, Satya plans on breaking the jail to reunite with her brother. Will Satya be successful in her plan forms the plotline of the film. The film is backed by Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, Alia Bhatt, Shaheen Bhatt and Somen Mishra under Dharma Productions and Eternal Sunshine Productions.
The film earned mixed reviews from the audience on social media with some calling it ‘fabulous, emotional and gutsy,’ while other others saying that the film is not entertaining and is a victim of poor writing.
