Janhvi Kapoor talks about doing Hindi remakes; wants to work in a South film some day
Apart from Nitesh Tiwari’s Bawaal and Mr and Mrs Mahi opposite Rajkummar Rao, Janhvi Kapoor currently has Hindi remakes of two popular South films in her kitty.
Back in 2018, star kid Janhvi Kapoor made her debut in Bollywood as an actress with Karan Johar ’s film Dhadak. Hindi remake of Marathi super hit Sairat , it was initially compared a lot to the original. But Janhvi passed with flying colors. Well, the actress’ enviable line up now includes two more Hindi remakes-- Good Luck Jerry, which is an adaptation of Tamil film Kolamaavu Kokila, and Mili , the remake of Malayalam film Helen . The beauty is quite excited about her upcoming projects and so are her fans.
In an interview with Filmfare, Janhvi was asked about the advantages of doing Hindi remakes of films from other languages. She replied, “I think doing a remake has its pros and cons. Obviously, you know that it’s a film that has been loved by a large group of people. However, I still do think that it is a fun balance between still respecting the material and the intention with which the material was made. Because I think every successful film or anything successful in general appeals to people if it has been made with a pure and honest intention.”
She further stated that whoever is remaking a film needs to have a perspective on the story that’s individual to them, if it is another filmmaker. When asked if she would ever be interested in working in one of Boney Kapoor’s South productions, Janhvi replied, “You know I really want to do a South film, whether it’s Tamil, Telugu or Malayalam. I have been such a fan of their cinema for such a long time now and I think I’m just waiting for the right opportunity.”
Currently Janhvi is busy shooting for Nitesh Tiwari ’s next, titled Bawaal, opposite Varun Dhawan .
