The filmmaker revealed that Irumbu Kai Maayavi is based on his own comic and has undergone several script developments. He stated, “I wrote the story a couple of years ago and have made small adjustments to the script whenever time permits. It won’t be like my usual action genre films—here, romance and fantasy will play a significant role, and there will be less focus on guns and violence.”

He had earlier disclosed that he wrote the story a couple of years ago, specifically for actor Suriya. "Suriya sir would often ask when I would begin production on the film, but I need to complete my current commitments first. Only then can I start this project, as it will be made on a massive scale. But whenever I begin the project, it will only be with Suriya sir, that's for sure," he added.

What is Irumbu Kai Maayavi all about?

Touted to be a superhero film, Irumbu Kai Maayavi revolves around the main character, who loses one of his hands in an accident and then fights crime using a metal hand. Suriya will play the protagonist, with further details about the project expected to be revealed after Lokesh Kanagaraj completes his ongoing commitments.

For those unversed, the project marks the second collaboration between the director and actor. Suriya had previously appeared in a cameo role as Rolex, a menacing antagonist, in Lokesh's 2022 blockbuster film Vikram. Rolex is also set to have a standalone film, as Lokesh revealed at the event.
