International Emmy Awards: Aditya Roy Kapur and Anil Kapoor’s The Night Manager loses to Drops of God

It was a moment of pride and joy for Indians when the web series The Night Manager, starring Anil Kapoor, Aditya Roy Kapur and Sobhita Dhulipala, was nominated at the 2024 International Emmy Awards. But much to fan’s disappointment, the thriller web series lost to Les Gouttes de Dieu (Drops of God) in the Drama Series category at the prestigious awards.

The Night Manager falls short at Emmy Awards

The 2024 International Emmy Awards were held on Monday night in New York. The Night Manager lost out as Les Gouttes de Dieu (Drops of God) was declared as the winner in the Drama Series category. Later, the International Emmy Awards shared the poster of the winner, Drops of God, on X (formerly known as Twitter). The caption said, "The International Emmy® for Drama Series goes to Les Gouttes de Dieu [Drops of God] Produced by Legendary Entertainment / Les Productions Dynamic / 22H22 / Adline Entertainment / France Télévisions / Hulu Japan #iemmyWIN."

Apart from The Night Manager and Drops of God, other web series that were nominated in the category were The Newsreader – Season 2 (Australia) and Iosi, El Espía Arrepentido – Season 2 [Yosi, the Regretful Spy] (Argentina).

The ceremony was hosted by Indian comedian Vir Das. Aditya Roy Kapur and the show's creator Sandeep Modi were present at the ceremony in matching black outfits. The Night Manager was India’s only entry across 14 categories at the 2024 International Emmy Awards.

Based on the novel of the same name by John Le Carre, the show is a remake of the British television serial The Night Manager. The story of The Night Manager revolves around the life of Shaan, a night manager at a hotel in Dhaka. After he receives info about the crimes of a gangster, he tries to oust him by telling the authorities. How he proves the crimes of the gangster is the show’s plotline.

On the other hand, Drops of God is a French-American-Japanese television series directed by Oded Ruskin. The show features Tomohisa Yamashita and Fleur Geffrier and revolves around an heiress and a star student as they compete for the inheritance of an estate and its vast wine collection.
