The trailer for Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan's most-awaited movie, Indian 2, was released on Tuesday. The trailer promises a solid sequal to the 1996 classic Indian.

In the original film, Shankar presented Kamal's iconic character Veerasekaran Senapathy, aka Indian 'thatha,' as an elderly man with uncanny skills in launching a violent rebellion against the growing menace of corruption. But in the sequel, Shankar has elevated Indian 'thatha' to the stature of a superhero.

Indian 'thatha' seems sharper, deadlier, and even more muscular than he was 25 years ago. He appears to walk, run, and move faster than the Senapathy we first saw in the 1996 movie.

The trailer doesn't answer a few key questions, such as where Senapathy has been all these years and how he continues to defy age and remain stronger than ever. Nonetheless, Kamal justifies Senapathy's growing strength with age, and we don't ask these questions because we crave to see him in action.

Indian 2 seems to tackle all the pressing issues facing the country, from growing unemployment to the deteriorating quality of life for poor people. Amid this unchecked growth of corruption, Indian returns to put the fear of God in the bureaucrats who take bribes with impunity. He seems to take on different disguises while fighting the evil in our midst.

Indian 2 has been in the making for a long time and has faced countless troubles. The biggest setback for the production came when a freak accident on set killed three people. Kamal and Shankar revealed that they were just a few meters away from the spot where a giant crane carrying heavy lights came crashing down. "We escaped by just a whisker," Kamal said earlier while reacting to the tragedy. Following that, the Covid-induced lockdown forced the film into cold storage, and subsequent legal battles between Shankar and Lyca Productions further delayed the movie's revival.

The production of Indian 2 resumed only after Red Giant Movies came on board as new producers. According to reports, Lyca is in a serious cash crunch, causing it to stall or shelve its ambitious projects. However, the partnership with Red Giant Movies helped the company restart the project amid many challenges.

Talking to the media earlier, Kamal expressed his gratitude to both production houses and said, "They have the first claim to the film's success."

He also noted that while he was mightily impressed with Indian 2, he suggested that Indian 3 exceeded all his expectations.

Indian 2 also boasts an all-star supporting cast, including Siddharth, S. J. Suryah, Rakul Preet Singh, and Bobby Simha, among others. The film is due in cinemas on July 12.
