Sanjay Dutt had gone through a tough phase physically during the shooting of the movie Shamshera when he was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2020. Even though the actor had battled the disease courageously and even emerged victorious in the same, he recently recalled how he had expressed his desire to end his life when he had first heard about the diagnosis. Sanjay had cited his family’s tragic connection with cancer to be the real reason behind the same.
Talking about the same, the veteran actor who was shooting a rigorous schedule for KGF 2 during his treatment told ETimes, “I had a backache and was treated with hot water bottle and pain-killers until one day I couldn't breathe. I was taken to the hospital but the thing was that the cancer news was not broken to me properly. My wife, my family or my sisters, nobody was around me that time. I was all alone and suddenly this guy comes and tells me 'you have cancer’.”
The Munnabhai MBBS actor had recalled how he wanted to die instead of going through chemotherapy since his mother Nargis Dutt and first wife Richa Sharma had also died of cancer. The actor added, “My wife was in Dubai, so Priya (sister Priya Dutt) came to me. My first reaction was that, once you hear something like this, your whole life reflects back at you. I have a history of cancer in my family. My mom died of pancreatic cancer, my wife (Richa Sharma) died of brain cancer. So, the first thing I said was that, I don't want to take chemotherapy. If I'm supposed to die, I will just die but I don't want any treatment."
Sanjay Dutt’s wife Maanyata Dutt had flown from Dubai to be there at his side during this vulnerable time. The actor with sheer determination and fighting spirit successfully battled cancer and is today sporting a toned physique and being an inspiration to many. His wife Maanyata had even shared a special note on the release of KGF 2 recalling how he had shot the film amidst many hurdles.
