Here's what made Ranbir Kapoor call Alia Bhatt 'obsessed' while she was shooting for Gangubai Kathiawadi
Alia Bhatt opened up about her reserch for her role in Gangubai Kathiawadi and revealed she re-watched all of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film in addition to the recommened movies she had to watch.
Alia Bhatt has never been one to hide her excitement of working with visionary filmmakers like Sanjay Leela Bhansali and S.S. Rajamouli . Needless, to say Alia didn’t need much convincing when The Bajirao Mastani filmmaker approached her with the script of Gangubai Kathiawari in which she plays the titular character based on the true story of Mumbai’s mafia queen Gangubai Harjivandas.
However, Alia’s reverence for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s work led the actress to watch all of the filmmaker’s previously works while she was shooting for Gangubai Kathiawadi in addition to the many films she was already watching to prepare for the role.
During a recent interview with the news agency PTI, Alia revealed that her boyfriend and actor Ranbir Kapoor who debuted in Bollywood with Bhansali’s Saawariya in 2007, was compelled to call the actress ‘obsessed’ as she dived into SLB’s filmography to rewatch the films.
The actress explained that she was rather nervous as she took on the project. Talking about Gangubai Kathiawadi she said, "It was a different genre from what I was supposed to do with him earlier (Ishaallah). This is an emotional, hard-hitting film. For a second, I was a little doubtful of myself. I suddenly had (these thoughts)… which has never happened to me. (But) sir was very clear and asked me to think about it.”
Alia who has been earning praises for her powerful act so far after the trailer of the movie dropped also confessed she was supposed to visit the red light area of Kamathipura for research ahead of beginning shoot but the plan was scrapped last moment.
"I was all-ready one evening at 7 pm, that there will be a car in which I will go there incognito. Suddenly sir called and said we are one day away from the shoot so don't go," she said.
Gangubai Kathiwadi will arrive in cinemas on February 25, 2022.
