The year 2024 has been exceptionally rewarding for Malayalam star Prithviraj Sukumaran. His recent movies, excluding Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, have performed spectacularly at the box office, bolstering the success of the Malayalam film industry this year. His latest movie, Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil, which made its streaming debut last week , concluded its theatrical run on a triumphant note.

Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil, produced on a modest budget, has exceeded expectations, giving director Vipin Das his biggest-ever commercial hit. According to reports, the film earned more than Rs 55 crore in India alone and sold over Rs 34 crore worth of tickets overseas, bringing the total to Rs 90.20 crore. Although it fell short of reaching the Rs 100 crore mark, the filmmakers are pleased, considering it earned twice the production costs.

Besides playing the lead role, Prithviraj co-produced Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil. The film is a comedy-drama that relies heavily on Prithviraj's comedic timing. Earlier, Vipin Das revealed he had doubts about Prithviraj's ability to pull off a comedic performance, but Prithviraj has evidently exceeded expectations.

The film revolves around the bromance between future brothers-in-law, played by Prithviraj and Basil Joseph. However, an unknown past connection shatters their strong bond and sets off a series of farcical events surrounding a wedding.

Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil is now streaming on Disney+ Hotstar. The movie also stars Nikhila Vimal, Anaswara Rajan, and Yogi Babu.

Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil is Prithviraj's second biggest hit after Aadujeevitham. The latter film, which took 16 years to make, received a grand reception from critics and audiences alike upon its release, earning more than Rs 160 crore in global ticket sales. However, Aadujeevitham has yet to find a home on streaming platforms despite its huge success.
