The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting recently announced the winners of the 70th National Film Awards at a press conference in New Delhi. Manoj Bajpayee and Sharmila Tagore-starrer Gulmohar won the Best Hindi Film Award, while filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya won the Best Director Award for Uunchai. Pritam bagged the award for Best Music Director for Brahmastra, while singer Arijit Singh won the Best Male Playback Singer Award for the song Kesariya in the film.
Gulmohar bags National Award for Best Hindi Film
Manoj Bajpayee and Sharmila Tagore-starrer Gulmohar is directed by Rahul V Chittella. The film tells the tale of the Batra family who live in a house called Gulmohar. The dynamics of the family change when the matriarch of the family (Sharmila) decides to sell the house and move elsewhere.
Sooraj Barjatya bags National Film Award
Filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya bagged his first National Film Award for Uunchai, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Parineeti Chopra, Anupam Kher and Boman Irani. Actress Neena Gupta also starred in the film and bagged the Best Supporting Actress Award. The film tells a heartwarming tale of a trio of friends who decide to hike to Mount Everest.
Brahmastra Part One: Shiva wins big
Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt-starrer Brahmastra Part One: Shiva has won multiple National Film Awards. While Pritam won the Best Music Director Award for composing the soundtrack and background score for the film, Arijit Singh won the National Film Award for the Best Male Playback Singer. The film also bagged the National Film Award for Best Film in AVGC (Animation, Visual Effects Gaming and Comic).
The film tells the love story of Shiva (Ranbir) and Isha (Alia) and how they overcome evil in the world with the use of Shiva’s powers.
The 70th National Film Awards analysed the films certified by the censor board from January 1 to December 31, 2022. The winners, including the recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, will be presented the awards by President Droupadi Murmu in October 2024.
