The iconic actor-director duo Govinda and filmmaker David Dhawan have delivered several hits in the 80s and 90s. They worked together in 17 films including Coolie No.1, Raja Babu, Shola Aur Shabnam, and Hero No.1 among others. The majority of their collaboration became a hit, they even gave chartbuster songs. However, the two had a fallout and the two maintained distance. Years later, they have buried all the hatchets and have reconciled.
In the latest interview, Govinda opened up about reuniting with the ace filmmaker. He said, “I am glad people still feel that we should work together. Yeh unka pyaar hai. Our patch-up had already happened. This was our second meeting. It was a Diwali bash where we ate good food and had a great time. We don’t believe in raking up the past. Why mull over it? That’s not necessary. Let bygones be bygones. Filmy talk wasn’t a priority, but when that happened, we only spoke about the happy memories and those were plenty."
Earlier this month, Govinda sparked patch-up rumours when he shared a picture with David. In the photo, the two happily posed for the camera. Alongside the photo, Govinda wrote, “80s aur 90s mein meri do biwiyaan thi. Ek Sunita aur ek David (In the 80s and the 90s, I used to have two wives - Sunita and David).” Fans chimed in the comment section and wondered if the two have let bygones be bygones. The photo happened to be from producer Ramesh Taurani’s Diwali party.
In 2019, Govinda revealed that after he left politics and asked the secretary to keep the phone speaker on so that he could listen to what David Dhawan was saying. "He was telling my secretary, I do not want to work with Govinda anymore. Tell him to do some small bit roles,” the actor said in an old interview. Following this, the actor decided never to work with Dhawan. After 4-5 months, he again rang him up just to find out if he would give him a guest appearance in his film but he never rang him back. The two last worked in Partner in 2007.
