Garudan makes OTT debut: How to watch the Tamil blockbuster online

The latest Tamil movie, Garudan, is one of the big hits in Tamil cinema this year so far. After an impressive theatrical run and garnering critical acclaim, Garudan is set to make its streaming debut on July 3. Garudan will become available for streaming simultaneously on three leading OTT platforms .

In India, audiences can watch Garudan from the comfort of their homes on Amazon Prime Video. For fans outside India, the film can be viewed on Simply South and Tentkotta.

Amid the rapidly changing business dynamics in the Indian film industry, many Tamil movies are unable to find official streaming partners. It seems that Amazon Prime Video, which usually shows great enthusiasm in acquiring blockbuster Tamil movies, has decided otherwise for Garudan. At the moment, we don't have clear details of the deal between the producers of Garudan and the streaming platforms. However, it's safe to assume that the streaming giant has agreed to a profit-sharing agreement with the producers as opposed to buying the movie with an upfront payment. This means that the streamer will host Garudan on its platform and pay the producers based on the viewership the movie garners. Higher viewership will result in a higher payout. The producers seem to have also entered a similar agreement with Simply South and Tentkotta.

Director R. S. Durai Senthilkumar directed Garudan and also penned its screenplay based on the story provided by ace filmmaker Vetrimaaran. The film opened to positive reviews from critics and also exceeded expectations in terms of footfalls.

Garudan provided much-needed relief to the Tamil film industry, which was going through a rough phase over the last six months. It also helped solidify Soori's image as a lead actor, who is fast emerging from the shadow of a comedian.

Garudan also stars M. Sasikumar and Unni Mukundan in the lead roles.
