Gangs of Godavari box office collection day 1: Vishwak Sen’s action drama has an impressive opening

Vishwak Sen’s latest film, Gangs of Godavari, which was released on May 31, has been receiving mixed-to-negative reviews from audiences and critics. However, the film, starring Vishwak Sen, Anjali and Neha Sshetty, has managed to have a decent opening at the box office. Thanks to the current dry spell at the Telugu box office, large crowds flocked theatres to watch the action drama film. Directed by Krishna Chaitanya, here’s how much the actioner has collected on day 1 of its release: 

Gangs of Godavari box office: Movie makes Rs 4.5 crore on Day 1

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Gangs of Godavari managed to collect approximately Rs 4.5 crore on its opening day. The film had a decent occupancy of 38.12%. Despite facing harsh criticism for the screenplay and direction, the film has successfully managed to get a decent collection and is expected to make more over the weekend. And since there aren't any big Telugu releases this week, the film might be able to maintain the momentum in the coming weeks.

What is Gangs of Godavari all about?

Written and directed by Krishna Chaitanya, the Telugu action drama is set in the 1980s, with Vishwak Sen playing Lankala Rathna. The film follows the journey of a common youngster from Godavari who fights some powerful people in the area. This rags-to-riches story narrates the gripping tale of thugs and politics in the 1980s, set in the Eluru and Godavari coastal regions.

Gangs of Godavari is jointly produced by Suryadevara Naga Vamsi and Sai Soujanya under the banners of Sithara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas. The film stars Neha Sshetty as Vishwak’s love interest, besides featuring actors like Anjali, Nasser, and Goparaju Ramana in key roles. Yuvan Shankar Raja is the music composer of the film, while Navin Nooli is the editor.
