Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan and Akshaye Khanna starrer Dil Chahta Hai has completed 23 years of its release. Marking the occasion, the multi-talented Farhan Akhtar, one of the brains behind Dil Chahta Hai, shared a heartfelt post on social media page summarising the storyline of the film.

Dil Chahta Hai turns 23

Taking to Instagram, director of Dil Chahta Hai, Farhan Akhtar shared a video featuring short clips from the film. He captioned the post, “To the cast, crew and audience, your love has kept #DilChahtaHai alive for 23 years.”

The video begins with a slow motion shot of Akash, Sameer, and Siddharth (names of Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan and Akshaye Khanna in the film) driving towards Goa and the words, “2001. 23 years of Dil Chahta Hai. Written and directed by Farhan Akhtar,” appears on screen.

Later, Akash (Aamir) tells Sameer (Saif) that the three friends are going to Goa for a trip and the title track of Dil Chahta Hai begins playing in the background.

Later, the video features their adventures in Goa including trekking and playing volleyball among others.

The video also introduces Preity’s character to us who tells Akash, “Pyaar faisle se nahi kiya jata bas ho jata hai (You don’t love someone by decision, you simply fall in love).”

The video also features the love interests of Sameer and Siddharth. In the end, Siddharth (Akshaye) says this iconic dialogue, “Is rait ko dekh rahi ho, isse jitana zyada kabu mein karne ki koshish karogi utni jaldi ungliyo ke beech se nikal jayegi.”

The video ends with Aksah saying, “Hum dost they, hain or hamesha rahenge” and the friends making the resolution that they should come to Goa every year for a week.

Cast and crew of Dil Chahta Hai

Released in 2001, Dil Chahta Hai brought together a stellar cast featuring Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna, Preity Zinta, Dimple Kapadia among others. Backed by Excel Entertainment, Dil Chahta Hai was a coming-of-age film about three friends who venture on a journey to Goa and unfolds different facets of their personalities.
