Yogita Bihani is currently receiving loads of appreciation for her performance in the Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan starrer Vikram Vedha . The movie marks the actress’ stellar debut in Bollywood from the television sphere. Yogita was earlier seen in the Ekta Kapoor show Dil Hi Toh Hain opposite Karan Kundrra. In an exclusive chat with Desimartini, the actress spoke about her transition from TV to films and why she considers the latter a superior medium for an artist.
Talking about the same, Yogita Bihani said, “Honestly when it comes to TV, my directors always wanted me to do certain reactions which I honestly didn't know how to do it. The main reason why TV and film are different because the latter is a 70 mm screen, even if I blink an eye, people will see it as larger than life. So, you've to be organic and you cannot do the same thing in a film that you're doing on TV. While TV is a small screen so you've to do a little extra since people are connected to it while doing the chores of their daily lives. But they still know the story of the TV show because that is spoon-feeding. Also, there is screen time because, on TV, you've to deliver episodes. You've to shoot a 28-30 mins episode so all the aspects such as the dialogues and the lines, everything becomes different. But I never had a huge problem because in TV also, I never did a lot of overacting.”
Yogita Bihani added that as an actress, she got much more room to explore the nuances of acting in films than what she got on TV. She almost calls the latter like a 9-to-5 corporate job. Bihani went on to say, “I just couldn't do it because it was not in me. You've to unlearn a lot of things because TV is a shortcut. Even to cry, you've to take glycerin and you find yourself shooting for every scene within a span of half an hour. You cannot be so emotionally available on TV but actors are humans too. That's why art is such a beautiful thing whether you're a painter, actor, or writer because they all need time. Sometimes they are not in the right zone and they'll not be able to do it but that's okay on a film set. That's not okay on a TV set, even if you're not feeling it, you've to do it. Like in TV, my first four scenes are that I'm crying near the window, on the sofa, and while holding the teddy so in such a case, what new can I provide for you? So, I've to take shortcuts on TV to deliver and it becomes a problem and a 9 to 5 job of sorts. As an actor, you've to see and feel new characters. In TV, it becomes a very small space where you cannot explore a lot. You're just doing repetitive things and it's not exciting after that. That's just compromising I feel.”
Talking about Vikram Vedha, the film has been helmed by Pushkar Gayatri. The film also stars Rohit Saraf, Sharib Hashmi, and Radhika Apte in the lead roles. The film has managed to cross Rs 100 crore worldwide.
