Dwayne Johnson's Epic Feud: Cena Reveals The Shocking Truth Behind The WWE Dram
Dwayne Johnson and John Cena's decade-old WWE feud, which began over Cena's allegations of Johnson prioritizing his acting career over wrestling, became a talking point for wrestling fans worldwide.
Professional wrestling has its fair share of spiced-up rivalries, however, the feud between Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and John Cena a decade ago was shockingly authentic. The drama, initially stirred up in 2012 and 2013, escalated to uncomfortable levels before the pair finally settled their differences. Ten years on, Cena openly shoulders the blame for the heated exchange (UPROXX).
The Spark Behind the Fire
Cena ignited the feud during an interview where he accused Johnson of prioritising his acting career over his commitment to wrestling. Johnson didn't take kindly to the remarks, and the situation quickly spiralled.
Reflecting on his past behaviour during a recent appearance on the 'Happy Sad Confused' webcast, Cena stated, "I got selfish and me — living WWE at the point and not having any concept of growth or someone else’s perspective — I took Dwayne’s comments as not genuine." Cena confessed his perception of love for wrestling was misconstrued, expecting everyday presence, which he himself couldn't uphold.
Cena's Realisation and Regret
Cena admitted he should've approached Johnson privately to resolve their disagreement, instead of aggravating it publicly. "Instead of going like, ‘Hey man, I’d like to try to do this thing to hook you back in and maybe we can collaborate and really make it big,’ I was just like, ‘Eff this, I’m calling this dude out. This is a moment. You gave me an opening. I’m going to kick the door in,’" Cena admitted.
Cena confessed to his failure in understanding what wrestlers like Johnson and Dave Bautista were achieving by branching out into film and TV. The selfishness, Cena declared, almost jeopardised their relationship, "There was a moment where there was a lot of bad vibes between us and rightfully so."
Fast-forwarding to now, Cena himself has made his mark in the acting industry, even landing a villainous role in the 'Fast and Furious' franchise.
