Double iSmart: Puri Jagannadh reveals why only Ram Pothineni could pull off the film

The grand release of Ram Pothineni-starrer Double iSmart is just around the corner and fans are eagerly awaiting the action spectacle set to hit big screens this Independence Day weekend. Ahead of the film’s release, the makers organized a pre-release event where the cast and crew spoke at length about the upcoming film.

Director Puri Jagannadh, who is pinning all his hopes on this action drama, revealed that Ram Pothineni was the perfect choice to play Shankar in the film. Explaining further, the director said, “When I think of Double iSmart, the one name that comes to mind is Ram Pothineni. The energy Ram brings is unparalleled. You can see Ram’s energy when he just walks onto the set. It doesn’t just excite me; it energizes me.” The director then added that Ram was able to bring his vision to life through his physical attributes like hairstyle, body language, Telangana slang, and most importantly, his swaggy attitude. “No one other than Ram can portray the role of Double iSmart,” the director asserted. 

Although the film received an 'A' certificate from the CBFC due to its extreme violence and strong dialogues, leading man Ram Pothineni revealed that the film’s storyline would still be enjoyed by family audiences, as the emotions of the sequel will resonate with viewers. “There is a proper backstory to my character in Double iSmart, and the family audience can also watch the film without any hesitation,” he said.

Double iSmart: An explosive trailer

Earlier, the makers unveiled the high-voltage trailer of the Puri Jagannadh film. The short glimpse introduces us to a loud-mouthed Shankar, reprised by Ram Pothineni, who fears no one and exudes a badass persona. As showcased in the first installment, his character carries a chip implanted in his brain, giving him powers that make him stronger than other humans. However, Sanjay Dutt’s character, Big Bull, who wishes to become immortal, kidnaps Shankar to extract the chip through a brain transplant surgery. The glimpse then showcases intense dialogues and high-octane action sequences between the two characters, with Kavya Thapar playing Ram Pothineni’s love interest. 

Besides the lead cast, the film also stars Ali, Sayaji Shinde, Makrand Deshpande, Bani J, Getup Srinu, and Gurbani in supporting roles. Double iSmart is scheduled to hit the big screens on August 15, 2024.
