Dipika Chikhlia slams Adipurush star Kriti Sanon after kiss controversy: ‘Today's actresses just consider it a role'
Condemning Kriti, who plays Janaki in the upcoming epic drama, Dipika said that she would have never thought of herself as Sita and just consider it a role.
Ahead of the Adipurush release, actress Kriti Sanon and director Om Raut have been facing flak for their goodbye kiss at Tirupati temple which stirred controversy. Dipika Chikhlia, who immortalised the role of Sita in Ramanand Sagar’s television series Ramayan, has reacted to the social media uproar around the incident. Condemning Kriti, who plays Janaki in the upcoming epic drama, Dipika said that she would have never thought of herself as Sita and just consider it a role.
In a recent media interaction, Dipika recalled her days on Ramayan sets. “No one dared to take our names on the set. When we were in our characters, many people would come and touch our feet right on the set. It was a different era. At that time, they didn't see us as actors; they saw us as gods. We couldn't even hug anyone, let alone a kiss,” she told AajTak.
She further condemned Kriti saying, “Kriti is an actress of today's generation. In today's era, kissing or hugging someone is considered a sweet gesture. She would have never thought of herself as Sita Ji. It becomes a matter of emotions. I have lived the character of Sita, while today's actresses just consider it a role. After the film or project is over, they don't care anymore.” She said that Adipurush actors will move ahead with other projects and may forget their characters. But such a thing never happened to us. We were treated as if we were gods descending from above and living in this world. That's why we never did anything that would hurt people's sentiments,” she added.
Adipurush is an upcoming epic drama based on Ramayana in which Prabhas and Kriti play the role of Raghava and Janaki. Directed by Om Raut, the film has Saif Ali Khan as Lankesh and Sunny Singh as Lakshmana. Backed by T-series and Retrophiles, the film is scheduled to arrive in theatres on June 16, 2023.
