Dalljiet Kaur’s estranged husband hits back at actress; discloses truth behind the legality of their marriage
Actress Dalljiet Kaur’s husband Nikhil Patel has penned a note, revealing the legality of their marriage and how Dalljiet had a hard time settling into a new life in Kenya
Dalljiet Kaur and Nikhil Patel
Television actress Dalljiet Kaur’s love life has been the center of attention ever since the actress started sharing cryptic posts on her social media, hinting that her second husband, Nikhil Patel had an extra-marital affair. She then announced her separation and also lodged an FIR against Nikhil. Now, her estranged husband has hit back at Dalljiet, claiming that his marriage with the actress was not legal and he has decided to move on in his life.
Nikhil hits back at Dalljiet
Taking to social media, Nikhil, a British expat in Kenya, penned a long note, revealing his side of story and claiming that Dalljiet is portraying herself as a victim by claiming that their marriage ceremony was legal. Speaking about his relationship with Dalljiet and her son Jaydon, Nikhil revealed that he met the actress for the first time in Dubai in 2022. He further said that he had a Hindu ceremony in March of 2023 in Mumbai, India after which the family moved to Nairobi, Kenya, where Nikhil works and resides as a British expat. “We lived in Kenya together as a family until January 2024 when she returned to India with Jaydon,” he said.
Speaking about the legality of his marriage with Dalljiet, he wrote that the actress knew that Nikhil was not legally divorced from his first wife, and he had sent a letter mentioning the same to her parents after which her parents gave blessings for the wedding.
Nikhil on the legality of his marriage
In his statement, Nikhil wrote that their marriage ceremony was a celebration of two cultures coming together and admitted that the couple wanted to legalise their relationship once the divorce had come through.
Explaining the legality of his marriage, Nikhil said, “This is why the Hindu ceremony was held in a banquet hall rather than a Gurudwara or a Mandir, and was purely a non-legally binding celebration of our respective family and friends and for the sole purpose of Dalljiet being able to move to Kenya.” Nikhil revealed that his final divorce from his first wife did not arrive until January 2024, by which time Dalljiet had already left for India.
Speaking about Dalljiet portraying herself as a victim of an extra-marital affair, Nikhil wrote,” Our celebration in India was not in any way meant to be, nor was it a “legal” marriage ceremony. For Dalljiet to pretend that we entered a legal union is deliberately deceptive and meant solely for purpose of supporting her victim's self-portrayal."
Talking about devoting his time and efforts to help Dalljiet move to Kenya and make her feel at home, Nikhil revealed that he helped her to establish her profile and provided her with a studio for her YouTube channel and podcasts but the actress wanted to secure work in India by writing scripts and market her short films.
He added, “As a supportive partner, I remained committed to backing her projects."
Nikhil on Dalljiet’s attitude in Kenya
Nikhil also revealed that Dalljiet had a hard time adjusting to a new, non-celebrity profile in Kenya. He said that Dalljiet had found it difficult to adapt to being perceived as a regular member of the community in Kenya rather than being recognized for her fame and status as an actress.
Speaking about working things out with the actress, Nikhil said that he continued to keep in touch with her after she returned to India in January 2024 and the two talked regularly. Nikhil added that he tried his best to work on his relationship and keep matters private.
Nikhil revealed that he asked Dalljiet to return to Kenya but it was evident from her interviews that she wanted to focus on her career back in India and was not ready for the different lifestyle in Kenya.
Nikhil on media scrutiny
Talking about how the media scrutiny has been affecting his innocent children, Nikhil wrote, "In the past eight months since Dalljiet and Jaydon left Kenya, I have found myself subjected to intense scrutiny on social media. Dalljiet decided to withdraw Jaydon from his prestigious British international school in Nairobi after just four days of the new term. She then informed my oldest daughter through a voice note and messaged my friends, stating her intention to leave Kenya permanently and return to India."
He concluded his statement by saying that he had made peace with her decision and decided to move on in his life.
Dalljiet responds to Nikhil's letter
After Dalljiet Kaur’s estranged husband Nikhil penned the letter, the actress has now responded to his message by sharing a post on her Instagram stories. Hitting back at him, Dalljiet in a note said, “You had three days in India after knowing about the FIR. Which you have just admitted you knew about. If the rubbish you had printed out right now was true, you would have gone to the police station and told your side to them instead of sending it out to your PR. After running away from India while the police kept telling you to visit them again and again. Your PR stories are not going to give me justice and a person like you deserves to be punished.”
Dalljiet’s personal life
After tying the knot with Nikhil in a lavish ceremony in 2023, Dalljiet moved back to India, sparking divorce rumors with her second husband. Later, the actress shared cryptic posts on her social media and announced her separation from Nikhil Patel.
The actress was earlier married to television actor Shalin Bhanot. After six years of marriage, the couple decided to part ways in 2015. The two have a son named Jaydon.
