Confirmed! Vikrant Massey to star in Rajkumar Hirani's OTT debut series, here's all you need to know
After much speculations, Rajkumar Hirani has finally confirmed that 12th Fail star Vikrant Massey will be a significant part of his OTT debut series.
After his 12th Fail performance, Vikrant Massey has become every filmmaker’s first choice to work with. When Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s directorial was released, Dunki director Rajkumar Hirani was reportedly bowled over and pencilled him for his next venture. Hirani has now confirmed the report and revealed that he is set to make his OTT debut with a series in which Massey will play a pivotal role.
Hirani said that he will be making his OTT debut on Disney+Hotstar. “I'm doing an OTT show, which we actually start shooting this month. I'm a showrunner for that, I'm not directing it. It's a show for Hotstar (Disney Plus Hotstar), and Vikrant Massey is playing a role in it,” he told PTI. Without divulging details of the series, the filmmaker added, “It's something I'm very happy about, with the script and the way it has panned out. On this show, I’m really involved, and it’s in my own space.”
Earlier, reports were suggesting that Hirani had signed Massey as one of the leading actors opposite Ranbir Kapoor. However, there is official confirmation about Ranbir being one of them as of now.
Talking about Massey, the actor played the real-life hero Manoj Kumar Sharma in 12th Fail. The film is based on the 2019 eponymous non-fiction book by Anurag Pathak about the real-life story of Manoj Kumar Sharma, who overcame extreme poverty to become an IPS officer. The film, which also stars Medha Shankar and Anant V Joshi, had a successful theatrical run and is now streaming on Disney+Hotstar. Besides 12th Fail, Massey will next be seen in Phir Aayi Haseen Dilruba co-starring Taapsee Pannu.
On the other hand, Hirani last directed Dunki which marked his first collaboration with Shah Rukh Khan after 20 years. The film, based on an illegal immigration technique, also features Taapsee Pannu, Boman Irani Vikram Kochhar and Anil Grover. Vicky Kaushal made a special appearance. The film has garnered both critical and commercial success upon release.
