Brahmastra secures record breaking opening on Day 1 at the box office; boycotters, how do you like them apples?
Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt starrer end dry spell at the Bollywood box office, secures an excellent box office opening on Day 1.
Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor starrer Brahmastra is officially the biggest box office opener of the post-pandemic era. The film which finally opened in cinemas on Friday after being in the making for 5 years, saw excellent footfalls on Day 1 and has become Bollywood’s biggest non-holiday opener.
The movie directed by Ayan Mukherjee which has officially launched a new franchise named the ‘Astraverse’ in India, earned Rs. 35-36 crores on Day 1 according to a report in Box Office India.
Most of Brahmastra’s collections come from the Hindi belt on Day 1, but the film is also said to have taken a strong start at the box office in the South. According to the report, Brahmastra is said to have exceeded expectations in the Telugu belt at the box office.
With all the negativity surrounding Bollywood in recent months, the collections showcase that the audience is still willing to thong theatres if the content holds weight. The call for boycott and debate over the potential of Hindi films seem to have had little impact on the film’s advance bookings or footfalls on Day 1 and the trend is expected to continue over the weekend.
While Brahmastra got mixed reviews from the critics, the movie is being loved by the audience for its scale, visual effects as well Ayan’s larger than life imagination. The movie which is Part 1 of the Brahmastra trilogy will get a sequel in the coming years and hopefully fans won’t have to wait another five years to see it.
Brahmastra stars Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Nagarjuna, Amitabh Bachchan and Mouni Roy in key roles. The sequel of movie, Brahmastra Part 2 – Dev has already been announced and Ranbir is likely to be paired with Deepika Padukone whose presence has been teased in part one.
