Border 2: Varun Dhawan joins Sunny Deol's war film, reveals release date

Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan has officially revealed his association with Sunny Deol-starrer Border 2. The actor took to his social media to share a video message and along with it revealed that the film will release on January 23, 2026. The Anurag Singh-directed film is a sequel to JP Dutta’s 1997 film Border.

Varun to be a part of Border 2

Taking to Instagram, Varun shared a video revealing the crew of Border 2. The video begins with the words, “India’s biggest war film gets better,” while the song Sandese Aate Hai is playing in the background.

Later, while pictures of army men fighting on the border are displayed on screen, a voiceover from Varun begins which says, “Dushman ki nikli har goli see, jai hind bol kar takrata hua, jab dharti ma bulati hain, sab chod kar aata hain. Hindustan ka fauji hu mein (India’s army men fight every bullet fired from the enemy’s rifle. The army men leave everything and join the forces when the land of India wants them).” The video ends by revealing that the film will be releasing on January 23, 2026.

Varun on Border

Speaking about his first experience of watching Border in the theatres, Varun revealed in the caption that he remembers feeling a sense of pride after watching the film. He wrote, “I was just a kid in class four when I went to Chandan cinema and saw Border. And it made such a big impact. I still remember the sense of national pride we all felt in the hall.”

He goes on to speak about the kind of work the armed forces do to protect the citizens of the country. “I began looking up to our armed forces and to this day, I salute how they protect us and keep us safe be it on our borders or during natural calamities,” he added.

Varun on working with Sunny Deol

Revealing how working with JP Dutta and Sunny Deol in Border 2 would be a special moment in his career, Varun wrote, “J P Dutta sir’s war epic remains one of my most favourite movies to this day. To play a part in Border 2 produced by J P sir and Bhushan Kumar is a very, very special moment in my career. And I get to work with Sunny Paaji my hero makes it all the more special.”

He concluded the caption by saying, “I look forward to bring a valiant jawaan’s story to screen in what promises to be India’s biggest war film. I seek your good wishes Jai Hind.”

Border 2 is produced by JP Dutta, Nidhi Dutta, Bhushan Kumar, and Krishan Kumar and is directed by Anurag Singh. The film is scheduled to release on January 23, 2026.

JP Dutta’s 1997 film Border starred Sunny Deol, Suniel Shetty, Jackie Shroff, Akshaye Khanna, Pooja Bhatt, Tau, and Kulbhushan Kharbanda among others. The film became a blockbuster hit at the box office.
