Bobby Simha blames 'intellectuals' for Indian 2 negative reviews, faces backlash

Actor Bobby Simha has come under fire on social media after he slammed the critics of his latest movie Indian 2, which stars Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan in the lead role. In a viral clip, Bobby Simha blames the "intellectuals" for allegedly over-analyzing and failing to appreciate good movies.

Bobby Simha made the inflammatory comments when asked to share his reaction to the overwhelmingly negative reviews for Indian 2. "See, everyone thinks of themselves as very smart. They think people might assume that they are not smart if they say good things about what's good and try to find pointless flaws. We don't need to worry about the intellectuals. We only need to consider the (family) audience and whether they like the movie. Let the intellectuals make their own movies," said Bobby Simha.

Bobby Simha took the usual line of defence against detractors, which is, "If you are so smart, why can't you make a movie yourself?" However, this is a flimsy argument to defend a work of art that is riddled with countless flaws and disappointments. Even though this argument has historically failed to be of any service to filmmakers and actors, they continue to subscribe to it, owing to their lack of willingness to take accountability for making poor movies.

Similarly, Bobby Simha is facing social media backlash for blaming the audiences for not liking Indian 2.

Written and directed by Shankar, Indian 2 is a sequel to the 1996 classic Indian. The film enjoyed an enviable legacy, and it was always touted as a difficult task to top what Shankar managed to achieve with Indian. As feared, Indian 2 failed to meet expectations, garnering poor reactions from audiences and critics alike.

Indian 2 has a wafer-thin storyline, which Shankar has stretched to the maximum. It seems he has saved all the good scenes for Indian 3, which is due in cinemas early next year.
