Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan's upcoming movie Indian 2 is one of the most-awaited movies of 2024. To cash in on the buzz, producer AM Rathnam has decided to re-release the original movie Indian.

"Get ready to re-live the blockbuster experience once again! #Bharateeyudu - 1 Re-Release Trailer Out TOMORROW, Stay Tuned!! Releasing worldwide in Telugu & Tamil on June 7th at theatres near you!," confirmed Rathnam on his Twitter page.

The upcoming re-release of Indian in cinemas after 28 years adds momentum to the ongoing re-release trends in Tamil cinema. Due to the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, spanning more than seven phases, many big-budget Tamil movies postponed their releases causing a dry spell at the box office in Tamil Nadu. The stakeholders had to rely on the nostalgia factor of old blockbusters to bring audiences back to theatres.

Producer AM Rathnam was one of the big beneficiaries of this re-release trend. He recently struck a gold pot by re-releasing Ghilli coinciding with the movie's 20th anniversary. Starring Thalapathy Vijay and Trisha in the lead roles, the movie created several new records in the history of re-releases in India. Ghilli raked in more than Rs 30 crore from its worldwide ticket sales, setting a new benchmark in this category.

Indian is one of the milestone films in the Indian film industry. Written and directed by Shankar, the film revolves around an anti-corruption crusade led by an elderly freedom fighter. Kamal's performance as an old man in his 60s was the highlight of the movie. Kamal's Senapathy aka Indian thatha remains one of the iconic characters ever produced in Indian cinema.

Indian 2, bankrolled by Lyca Productions, is now getting ready to hit the screens worldwide on July 12.
