Tamil superstar Rajinikanth embarked on his annual spiritual retreat to the Himalayas on Wednesday. "I go on this trip every year. I will be visiting Kedarnath, Badrinath, and Babaji Cave," Rajinikanth told reporters before leaving.

Rajinikanth's annual trip to the Himalayas has fascinated millions of his fans worldwide for years now. However, this yearly affair was interrupted for several years due to his health deterioration.

Rajinikanth's health suffered significantly after he was diagnosed with a serious kidney infection. He required intensive treatment for many years and was treated in various hospitals worldwide. Recently, Rajinikanth recalled his struggles with the illness and expressed gratitude to the global medical community for helping him recover.

Rajinikanth revealed that about 60 percent of his kidneys were damaged, putting him in a life-threatening situation. He regained his health after undergoing a kidney transplant in the USA. He also had to follow a strict health protocol to recover fully, including avoiding public interactions, particularly during the height of the Covid pandemic. His fragile health impeded his political ambitions, forcing him to retract his announcement to launch his political party and contest in the Tamil Nadu elections.

Rajinikanth resumed his spiritual tours last year after a four-year hiatus. He travelled to the Himalayas on the eve of the release of Jailer. This year, he has taken the trip before starting the shoot for his next movie, Coolie.

Rajinikanth recently wrapped up his portions for Vettaiyan, helmed by TJ Gnanavel. "It was superb," said Rajinikanth, talking about his shooting experience for Vettaiyan.

Vettaiyan is now in post-production and is getting ready to hit the screens in October this year.

Rajinikanth took this trip less than a day after returning to India from Dubai. He had gone to Dubai for a cultural event, where he was honoured with UAE's golden visa.
