Award-winning cinematographer Santosh Sivan recently shared a snapshot with Malayalam superstar Mohanlal, hinting at the excitement ahead of the first screening of Barroz 3D. The film, which marks Mohanlal's directorial debut, has garnered significant anticipation due to its ambitious scale and innovative approach to storytelling. Sivan, who shot the film, expressed his eagerness to see their hard work come to life on the big screen.

Mohanlal has described Barroz as a monumental project in his career, emphasizing the film’s potential to elevate Indian cinema. “Barroz could become the pride of Indian cinema ,” Mohanlal said in a previous interview, underscoring his passion and hopes for the film’s impact.

Unlike traditional 3D films, Barroz was shot entirely on 3D cameras, aiming to deliver an immersive experience that blends visual spectacle with storytelling. The film even breaks new ground by featuring an animated character who shares the screen with Mohanlal, a first in Indian cinema. Set against the backdrop of Goa, the film is steeped in history and folklore, following the legend of a ghost who guards a hidden treasure.

Mohanlal explained the origins of the project, revealing how it started with an experimental idea between him and director TK Rajeev Kumar. “In my life, most things happen without any plans. Rajeev and I initially wanted to create a 3D play. I’m not sure if anyone outside India has done it, but it hasn’t been attempted here. It’s not easy, but we wanted to give it a try,” he shared with Kaumudy.

While Barroz was initially slated to release on October 3, the film’s debut has been postponed in light of the #MeToo controversy within the Malayalam film industry. Addressing the situation, Mohanlal acknowledged the difficult environment and the far-reaching impact of the Hema Committee report, explaining why the release needed to be pushed back. “I have postponed the release of my film because I cannot move forward with it under these circumstances,” he remarked.
